What have we been learning across the curriculum?

Year 6 children will have two sessions of PE each week. Please ensure the children have all their PE kit , including tracksuits and trainers, suitable for both indoor and outdoor lessons.  This term they will be having gymnastics on Thursdays from a visiting gymnastics coach. We will also be continuing the 'daily mile' into our daily routine so remember to bring your trainers every day.

This term we are exploring wind turbines  examining their structures, and after a series of investigations, we will be applying our knowledge and skills to design and create our own small model. We will hopefully be able to measure how much electricity then can generate too to examine how effective the designs are.

We will continue to use ICT across the curriculum to support different areas of our learning.

Throughout the year the children will be focusing on two main religions in religious education lessons - Christianity and Hinduism. They will learn about the festivals, religious practices, explore their own beliefs and discuss key questions in depth with their peers. In the first half of the autumn term we will be exploring how Hindus show commitment to their religion and how this may influence their daily life.

In science, we will be learning all about light and finding out as much as we can through a series on scientific investigations. We will be exploring how light travels; finding out about the reflective qualities of different materials and investigating shadow formation.

In geography, we are going to be finding out about energy sources - renewable and non-renewable. We will also explore the distribution of energy sources around the world . Our history unit is all about the Battle of Newbury and the civil war, and we will be taking a trip to Shaw House to find out more  about our local history.
